Iran deal ‘disaster’ is not Trump’s fault, conservative commentator claims

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro is pulling no punches regarding the latest memorandum of understanding with Iran, labeling the agreement a total "disaster." However, Shapiro is adamant that President Donald Trump is not the one to blame for the flawed outcome.

The Backlash Against the MOU

Following the release of the MOU's text, Shapiro, a co-founder of the Daily Wire, joined a growing chorus of conservative voices criticizing the administration's move. The agreement has drawn sharp fire from across the political spectrum, including Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., who did not mince words in describing the deal as the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.

Former Vice President Mike Pence also weighed in, arguing that the MOU mirrors the policies of appeasement that he and President Trump actively rejected during their previous term, contrasting it against the approaches taken by both the Obama and Biden administrations.

Strategic Critiques

While Shapiro continues to praise President Trump’s bold decision to authorize Operation Midnight Hammer—targeting Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile facilities—he argues that the subsequent negotiations were a massive loss for the U.S. According to Shapiro, the current agreement fails to effectively curb Iran's nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile program, or its support for global terrorism.

Furthermore, Shapiro highlighted problematic provisions that would allow Iran and Oman to toll the Strait of Hormuz after 60 days, alongside the green light for Iran to resume oil shipments immediately upon signing.

Shifting the Focus to JD Vance

Shapiro believes the fault for these shortcomings lies squarely with the chief negotiator, Vice President JD Vance. "In my opinion, the vice president of the United States -- the chief negotiator on this project -- has not well served the president," Shapiro told Fox News.

The sentiment is one the president seems to share. As reported by 205focus.com, President Trump recently suggested he would hold Vance responsible if the deal fails to deliver. During a G7 summit briefing, the president remarked, "If it works out, I’m going to take the credit. If it doesn’t work out, I’m blaming JD."
