Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a significant fire late Thursday night at Hollywood Outdoor Living in Vestavia Hills. The blaze broke out just before 11 p.m. in a storage area located behind the business, which sits along U.S. 31.

Emergency Response and Containment

Due to the presence of hazardous materials in the storage area, firefighters from Vestavia Hills, Hoover, and Rocky Ridge were dispatched to the site. Witnesses on the scene reported hearing loud popping noises as the fire intensified. To ensure public safety, Vestavia Hills police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies secured the area, blocking off Highway 31 from Massey Road to the Red Roof Inn and evacuating the few individuals present at the time.

Site Status and Environmental Protection

Crews successfully brought the fire under control and managed to contain the damage entirely to the exterior storage space, leaving the main showroom unharmed. While a heavy scent of chlorine lingered in the air, the highway was reopened once the odor dissipated.

Firefighters also worked diligently to prevent water runoff from entering the nearby Little Shades Creek, a vital tributary of the Cahaba River. The original report from our partners notes that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
