University of Alabama promotes dean, hires for new School of Leadership and Policy

The University of Alabama is set to welcome two high-profile leaders to its administrative ranks this summer as the campus continues to bolster its academic and leadership programs.

Expanding Graduate Education

André Denham has been named the new associate provost and dean of the Graduate School, effective July 1. Currently serving as the associate dean for graduate academic affairs, Denham has a proven track record at UA, notably launching the Crimson Odyssey mentorship program and championing initiatives to expand graduate student success.

In his new capacity, Denham will oversee recruitment, admissions, and program development. According to a university release, his primary objective will be aligning doctoral programs with the evolving needs of both the state of Alabama and the nation. Provost Lesley Reid praised the appointment, citing Denham’s strategic vision as the perfect fit for guiding the Graduate School into its next era.

Denham, a former professor of technology at UA, brings a wealth of academic experience, including a doctoral degree in educational technology from Arizona State University.

Launching a New School

The University is also preparing for the debut of the School of Leadership and Policy, which will be led by inaugural dean and retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Parker H. Wright starting August 1.

Wright, an Alabama native, brings an impressive background in global intelligence and organizational strategy. His career includes serving as deputy commander of Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base and leading critical operations for the U.S. Northern Command and NORAD. During his tenure at NORAD, Wright managed a $30 billion budget and oversaw 4,000 intelligence personnel.

UA President Peter Mohler expressed confidence in Wright’s ability to build a world-class institution. "Maj. Gen. Wright is an accomplished leader with a proven ability to develop people, shape strategy and drive innovation at scale," Mohler noted.

Wright holds a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University, as well as degrees from the U.S. Air Force Academy and Air University. He looks forward to collaborating with the UA community to cultivate leaders prepared to navigate complex, real-world challenges.
