Alabama seafood restaurant shut down over rodent infestation
A downtown Montgomery seafood restaurant has been forced to close its doors after health inspectors uncovered serious violations.
A prominent downtown Montgomery seafood spot has hit a major roadblock. Wintzell’s Oyster House, located on Commerce Street within the Renaissance Hotel and Montgomery Convention Center complex, was forced to cease operations on Monday, June 15, following a series of alarming health code violations.
Health Violations Spark Closure
An investigation conducted by the Montgomery County Health Department unearthed serious concerns at the restaurant, most notably a rodent infestation and significant failures regarding refrigeration equipment. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, the establishment is now required to fulfill specific corrective mandates before it is cleared to open its doors to the public again.
The Road to Reopening
As reported by WSFA 12 News, health officials have outlined clear expectations for the restaurant's management. The business must coordinate with a pest control provider to establish a rigorous, formal plan for the treatment and ongoing prevention of rodent activity. Furthermore, all necessary repairs to the facility's refrigeration units must be completed and verified.
