Neighborhood lounge and grill planned in spot that housed popular Avondale bars
Previous tenants included Marble Ring, as well as Ferus on 41st, which closed earlier this year.
A fresh chapter is coming to Birmingham’s Avondale entertainment scene. A new establishment, dubbed Retro, is officially in the works at 430 41st St. S., Unit A.
A New Neighborhood Spot
The Birmingham City Council officially approved a retail liquor license for the venue this past Tuesday. According to owner Rex Cole, who spoke before the city's public safety committee on May 12, the space is being designed as a welcoming “neighborhood lounge and grill.” Cole emphasized an inclusive atmosphere, stating, “Everyone is welcome.”
Safety and Transition
To ensure a secure environment for patrons, Cole confirmed that the lounge will feature camera systems and dedicated nighttime security personnel. This location is well-known in the Avondale community, having previously served as home to Marble Ring, as well as Ferus on 41st, the latter of which shuttered earlier this year.
While excitement is building for the arrival of Retro, fans will have to wait a little longer for a grand opening. Cole noted on social media that an official date hasn't been set yet, adding, “We have a few more hurdles to clear.” Stay tuned to 205focus.com for more updates on this developing neighborhood addition.
