Popular Birmingham-area sushi restaurant closes after 18 years
The Huntsville location closed last month.
A staple of the Cahaba Village dining scene is shutting its doors. Maki Fresh has officially closed, marking the end of an 18-year run at the popular Birmingham-area location.
A Permanent Exit
The closure was confirmed by a sign posted on the restaurant's entrance, while Google currently lists the sushi spot as permanently closed. This move follows the recent shuttering of the brand's Huntsville location, which wrapped up a nearly 10-year stint just weeks ago.
Legacy of Maki Fresh
Known for its fast-casual approach to poke bowls, sushi rolls, and other fresh offerings, Maki Fresh was established in 2008 by noted serial restaurateur John Cassimus. Cassimus has been a major figure in the industry, having been behind other notable ventures such as Zoe’s Kitchen, Zozo’s, and Zoë’s & Marky’s Kitchen.
