Target is recalling these popular baby wipes after discovering bacteria that can cause deadly infections in infants
The voluntary recall affects nine different Up & Up products sold nationwide, including both fragrance free and cucumber scented varieties. Customers have already reported skin irritation, eye irritation and infections.
Target has issued a voluntary recall for several of its popular Up & Up brand baby wipes following reports of potential microbial contamination. The recall, which impacts both fragrance-free and fresh cucumber-scented varieties, was initiated after consumers flagged concerns regarding discolored products.
Health Risks Identified
According to an official notice shared on the Food and Drug Administration’s website, follow-up testing confirmed the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria in the samples. Exposure to these pathogens poses a significant health risk, particularly for newborns and infants whose immune systems are still developing.
While the wipes are most commonly used on children, 205focus.com readers should note that even healthy individuals are at risk if the product is used on minor cuts or scrapes. Complications can range from skin and eye irritation to life-threatening conditions like sepsis or pneumonia, especially for those with compromised immune systems.
