Texas-style barbecue restaurant now open in Birmingham metro location
The business took "Food Truck of the Year” for two consecutive years from the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce.
The Birmingham metro area has a new destination for authentic Central Texas-style barbecue. Austin Whereabouts, a favorite food truck operator turned brick-and-mortar establishment, has officially opened its doors in McCalla.
From Food Truck Glory to Brick-and-Mortar
Owner Johnny LaFoy has officially moved the business into its new home located at 6530 Pocahontas Road. The transition follows a successful stint operating in Hueytown, where the business built a massive local following and earned the prestigious “Food Truck of the Year” title from the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce for two consecutive years.
Reflecting on the successful launch, the team shared their gratitude in a recent social media post: “Seeing a full restaurant and so many people excited about Central Texas BBQ in Birmingham means the world to us.”
On the Menu
The menu highlights traditional smoked favorites including brisket, pulled pork, turkey, chicken, sausage, spareribs, and beef ribs. For those looking for a signature experience, the restaurant offers the Texas Trinity plate, featuring a combination of brisket, spare ribs, and sausage.
Diners can also kick off their meal with the Texas Twinkie—a decadent appetizer featuring jalapeño peppers stuffed with a cream cheese and brisket blend, wrapped in bacon, smoked, and finished with a house glaze. To wrap up the meal, the restaurant offers banana pudding as its signature dessert.
