In light of recent news that Macy’s, the last remaining location in Alabama, has been listed for sale, we reached out to locals to reminisce about their favorite Riverchase Galleria experiences.
Many fondly remembered trips to Cindy’s Cinnamon Rolls, a long-time favorite spot. Donna Stack Wiggins shared how she cherished weekend outings with her mother and sister, always ending with a sweet treat from Cindy’s for the journey home. “Going there was like a mini day trip,” she said.
Cindy’s Cinnamon Rolls is the sole remaining location in the United States, making it a cherished part of the mall’s legacy.
Others reminisced about the carousel that once graced the food court or the iconic fountain that preceded it. Since its opening in 1986, the mall, once hailed as Alabama’s largest shopping destination, has been a popular venue for Christmas shopping.
Rodney Gaskin recalled driving from Huntsville to experience the mall’s Christmas displays in its inaugural year. “Such a wonderful sight to see!” he wrote.
Darryl Weatherspoon, a former call center employee at the mall, fondly remembered the holiday atmosphere, including concerts by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and chorus. “The Christmas music and performances were truly special,” he noted.
Additionally, commenters reflected on the various celebrities who have visited the Galleria over the past four decades, adding to the mall’s rich history.
