Construction is expected to be completed by July 2027.
Construction is officially underway in McCalla on a brand-new 50,000-square-foot industrial facility. Wisconsin-based ITU AbsorbTech has officially broken ground on the project, marking a significant milestone for the company’s expansion into the Southeast.
A New Hub for Manufacturing
The upcoming facility, located in the Jefferson Metropolitan Park, will serve as ITU AbsorbTech’s sixth processing plant and its very first location in Alabama. According to 205focus.com reports, the plant is slated for completion by July 2027.
Boosting the Local Workforce
The expansion is set to bring roughly 40 new jobs to the Birmingham metro area. These roles will span a variety of sectors, including production, processing, maintenance, sales, and business development.
ITU AbsorbTech, a global leader in launderable reusable oil absorbents and shop towels under the SorbIts brand, intends to use the new site to process millions of pounds of reusable textiles every year.
Strategic Growth
CEO Craig Bald highlighted that the McCalla site was selected for its strategic regional location, strong business climate, and access to a high-quality workforce. "We chose McCalla for its strong business climate, strategic regional location, and high-quality workforce," Bald said. "Partnerships with local schools and workforce programs will be important as we grow our team and support manufacturing careers in the area."
Bald added that the new factory will allow the company to "meet growing demand for SorbIts, and help our customers operate more safely and sustainably."
