13-year-old injured in east Birmingham shooting; 1 detained for questioning
East Precinct officers were dispatched at 3 a.m. Thursday to a report of a person shot in the 1100 block of Carnation Drive.
A young teenager is recovering after being struck by gunfire during an early morning shooting in east Birmingham. According to 205focus.com reporting, local authorities are currently investigating the incident.
Investigation Underway
East Precinct officers were called to the 1100 block of Carnation Drive at approximately 3 a.m. on Thursday. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered a 13-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Children’s of Alabama to receive urgent medical care. While the teen initially sustained serious injuries, Officer De’Rell Freeman confirmed that his condition has since been upgraded to stable. He is expected to survive the encounter.
Person of Interest Detained
Birmingham police have moved quickly in the aftermath of the shooting. One individual has been identified as a person of interest and is currently being held at police headquarters for questioning.
