20-year-old killed in crash on I-459 in Hoover remembered as ‘remarkable young man’
Alaric Zane Dutton, a 20-year-old graduate of Oak Grove High School, was killed Friday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 459 in Hoover near John Hawkins Parkway.

A tragic accident on Interstate 459 in Hoover has claimed the life of 20-year-old Alaric Zane Dutton. The Oak Grove resident was remembered by loved ones as a gifted and spirited young man following the fatal collision on Friday night.
Investigation into the Fatal Crash
According to the Hoover Police Department, the wreck occurred at 10:07 p.m. on Friday on I-459 northbound near John Hawkins Parkway. Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates confirmed that Dutton was driving one of the two vehicles involved in the collision. Hoover police reported that Dutton’s vehicle struck a trailer before exiting the interstate. First responders transported him to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:53 p.m. The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
Remembering Alaric Zane Dutton
Dutton, a graduate of Oak Grove High School, is being celebrated for his impressive achievements and character. According to his obituary, he was a “remarkable young man who approached life with enthusiasm and a strong spirit.” Those who knew him noted that he consistently excelled in both athletics and academics.
Beyond his accomplishments, Dutton was remembered for his deep devotion to his family and friends. “His nurturing spirit will be remembered by all. He cherished every moment spent with his family and close friends,” the tribute stated. “His memory will remain a guiding light for all who loved him.”
Services
A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday at Bell Funeral Home in Sumiton. A celebration of life will follow on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Fusion Church in Hueytown, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
