Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man at a Talladega gas station.

The victim, identified as Marvin Darrius Smith Jr., was shot on Thursday at the Chevron on Broadway Avenue, according to Lt. Dennis McDaniel.

Smith was transported to Citizens Baptist Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

McDaniel reported that the shooting resulted from a physical altercation between Smith and a 17-year-old inside the store.

Further details have not been disclosed, and no charges have been filed.

The investigation is being assisted by the Jacksonville State Center for Applied Forensics, the Talladega County District Attorney’s Office, and the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office.
