3 shot in southwest Birmingham: 15-year-old boy, woman injured in shootout

A suspected shootout in southwest Birmingham on Thursday night resulted in three injuries, including a 15-year-old boy who was initially reported in critical condition. Authorities initially reported six people injured, though later investigations confirmed three victims.

Investigation into the scene

Birmingham police and fire crews were dispatched to the 3200 block of Aspen Avenue Southwest at approximately 7:50 p.m. Officer De’Rell Freeman stated that officers arrived on the scene following multiple 911 calls describing heavy gunfire in the vicinity of Wiggins Park.

Status of the victims and suspects

Upon arrival, police discovered two victims at the scene: the 15-year-old male and a woman, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A third individual, identified by Officer Freeman as a possible suspect, later arrived at a hospital after being transported by private vehicle. All three victims are expected to survive.

Law enforcement officials have taken multiple persons of interest into custody. Those individuals are currently being questioned at police headquarters as the investigation continues.
