After loss to Trump, Harris dishes out advice to Democrats: ‘We need to be ruthless’
The former vice president and 2024 presidential candidate called for Democratic voter turnout in the midterms to be "too big to rig"

Following her 2024 presidential campaign, former Vice President Kamala Harris is issuing a stark directive to the Democratic Party: it is time to get ruthless. Speaking on Friday at the National Urban League meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, Harris argued that a bold, uncompromising approach is the only way to counter Republican tactics in the upcoming midterm elections.
A Call to be 'Too Big to Rig'
In a discussion with National Urban League CEO Marc Morial, Harris emphasized that record-breaking voter turnout is the primary weapon against recent Supreme Court rulings that weakened minority voting power. According to Harris, the party must aim for a turnout so significant that it becomes “too big to rig.”
“It means being ruthless. They are ruthless. We need to be ruthless, too,” Harris stated. “By that, I do not mean cruel. That is not our nature. I do not mean breaking the law. But I do mean we must be uncompromising.”
Targeting Structural Reform
Harris outlined an aggressive policy agenda for the party, suggesting that Democrats must move beyond traditional political boundaries. She explicitly called for re-evaluating several foundational elements of the American political system, including:
- Abolishing the Electoral College
- Expanding the Supreme Court
- Granting statehood to Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
“I know this is going to be controversial coming from me in particular, but we need to revisit these things,” Harris remarked during the event.
Strengthening Judicial Accountability
Beyond broad structural changes, Harris set her sights on the federal judiciary. She proposed that a future Democratic-led Senate Judiciary Committee should implement stricter oversight for judicial nominees.
“We should demand if we win back the Senate, that the Senate Judiciary Committee have the strength to put in place rules that would include if a nominee for a federal court or the Supreme Court comes before them and starts lying, that they hold them in contempt,” Harris said, as reported by 205focus.com.
