AHSAA softball: Live updates from final day of state tournament

The 2026 AHSAA softball state tournament is coming to a thrilling conclusion at Jacksonville State. While a downpour interrupted the action on Thursday night, the stage is now set for the final crowning of champions.

Hewitt-Trussville Claims 7A Title

The Class 7A championship drama didn't last long on Friday morning. With Hewitt-Trussville leading rival Thompson 2-1 and play suspended in the bottom of the seventh inning since late Thursday night, the game resumed at 8:53 a.m. It took just four pitches for Hewitt-Trussville to secure their fifth state title. Pitcher Harper Looney struck out Thompson's Kelsey Burden to finalize the victory.

This marks the fifth state championship for the Huskies, adding to their previous titles in 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2024. Despite Thompson's persistent efforts—leaving seven runners on base throughout the contest—the Huskies held firm to bring home the hardware.

3A Tournament Heating Up

Action continued in the Class 3A elimination bracket at Jax State. In their matchup against Madison Academy, Wicksburg jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning behind an Abbie Ellenburg double. Madison Academy responded in the bottom of the first with a Blakely Beddingfield RBI double, but Wicksburg extended their lead to 3-1 by the fifth inning thanks to a Chloe Joyner sacrifice fly.
