Aaron Rodgers returning for another NFL season

Aaron Rodgers is officially running it back in the Steel City. The four-time NFL MVP has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, putting an end to a long-awaited decision regarding his future, as first reported by The Associated Press.

One Final Ride

At 42 years old, the legendary quarterback is set to embark on his 22nd NFL season, which could be his last. After leading Pittsburgh to an AFC North title last year—tallying 24 touchdowns against just seven interceptions—Rodgers returns to a franchise where he has found a comfortable home, much like his storied tenure in Green Bay.

This season marks a significant reunion, as Rodgers links back up with head coach Mike McCarthy. The two spent 13 seasons together in Green Bay, capturing a Super Bowl title and earning two of Rodgers' four MVP awards. McCarthy, 64, took the reins in Pittsburgh this January after the departure of long-time coach Mike Tomlin, who stepped down after 19 seasons.

Developing the Future

While Rodgers remains the focal point, the quarterback room has seen some changes. The Steelers drafted Penn State standout Drew Allar in the third round, joining veteran Mason Rudolph and 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard. Rodgers’ presence provides a masterclass opportunity for these developing signal-callers as they prepare for the future.

Offensive firepower is also getting a boost. The addition of wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. via trade and draft pick Germie Bernard should give Rodgers more options to work with, helping to alleviate the heavy coverage DK Metcalf faced throughout the previous campaign.

Looking Ahead

With Pittsburgh set to begin organized team activities on May 18, it remains to be seen when Rodgers will officially take the field. Given his deep familiarity with McCarthy’s offensive system, the veteran may opt to remain in Malibu until mandatory minicamp, which runs from June 2-4. Regardless, when the team converges at Saint Vincent College in late July for training camp, Rodgers will be at the helm with a clear mission: guide the Steelers back to the postseason and chase the franchise's first playoff win in a decade.
