Urban Meyer loses $30 million arbitration case vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, report says

Urban Meyer is walking away empty-handed in his high-stakes legal battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to a new report, the former head coach has lost his arbitration case, officially stripping him of his claim to $30 million in back pay.

The Arbitration Ruling

As first reported by On3’s Brett McMurphy on Monday, an independent arbiter has sided with the Jaguars, shutting down Meyer’s argument that his 2021 dismissal was not conducted "for cause."

A Short-Lived Tenure

Meyer’s tenure in the NFL was tumultuous from the start. Just 13 games into the first year of his six-year, $36 million deal, he was ousted on Dec. 12, 2021. The firing came on the heels of reports alleging he kicked kicker Josh Lambo during a preseason practice, as well as an October controversy involving viral footage of the coach at a Columbus steakhouse.

Jacksonville owner Shahid Khan maintained that the firing was for reasons beyond simple wins and losses. Because the team successfully argued the termination was "for cause," the organization is not required to pay any additional salary beyond the 2021 season.

Life After Jacksonville

While Meyer dominated the collegiate ranks—winning over 85% of his games and three national titles during stops at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State—he has remained on the sidelines since his Jacksonville exit. The 61-year-old now focuses on media work, serving as a college football analyst for Fox Sports and co-hosting the "Triple Option" podcast alongside Rob Stone and former Alabama and NFL star Mark Ingram.
