Kyle Busch found unresponsive in racing simulator before death at 41
The Associated Press reported the news.
New details are emerging regarding the sudden passing of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, as the racing world mourns the loss of the two-time Cup Series champion at age 41. 205focus.com is following the developing reports surrounding the death of the iconic driver.
A Legacy on the Track
Busch, who held the record for the most total wins across NASCAR’s three national touring series, passed away following a hospitalization. While no official cause of death has been released, the Associated Press reports that Busch was participating in a Chevrolet racing simulator session in Concord this past Wednesday when he became unresponsive. He was subsequently transported to a hospital in Charlotte.
Prior to this, the driver's family had noted he was dealing with a “severe illness,” just three days before his scheduled appearance at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. These details were confirmed by family members earlier Thursday, though no further specifics have been disclosed by his team.
Remembering a Champion
Born on May 2, Busch recently celebrated his 41st birthday while competing in his 22nd full season in NASCAR’s elite division. Throughout his storied career, he claimed back-to-back Cup Series titles in 2015 and 2019. His 63 Cup Series victories rank him ninth on the circuit’s all-time list.
Beyond his Cup Series success, Busch was a dominant force in NASCAR’s other national divisions, accumulating 102 victories in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and 69 wins in the Craftsman Truck Series. His career spanned tenures with legendary owners, including Hendrick Motorsports starting in 2005, his long-standing run as the face of Toyota with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008, and his most recent move to RCR in 2023.
Busch was the younger brother of NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch and is survived by his wife, Samantha, and their children, Brexton and Lennix.
