These 5 Alabama football players have the most to prove before 2026 season
Alabama football has a lot to prove in 2026. However, some players have more than others.
Alabama football enters the 2026 season with plenty to prove. As Kalen DeBoer heads into his third year in charge, this campaign serves as a critical litmus test to show the Crimson Tide have moved past the inconsistent performances that hindered their previous season.
While the team looks to gel before the Sept. 5 season opener against East Carolina, certain individuals face more pressure than others to secure their standing on the depth chart during the upcoming preseason camp.
Jackson Lloyd, Offensive Tackle
With nearly the entire starting offensive line from 2025 departing, the trenches need a major overhaul. Ryan Grubb has already tipped his hand, naming redshirt freshman Jackson Lloyd as the projected starter at left tackle. Grubb expressed high enthusiasm for the youngster, but now Lloyd must prove that early confidence was well-placed by delivering a dominant camp.
Will Sanders, Interior Offensive Line
After an injury sidelined him for all of spring practice, redshirt sophomore Will Sanders is eager to make his mark. Though Mal Waldrep took the starting guard reps during A-Day, Sanders—a homegrown talent from Brookwood—is widely considered the favorite to lock down a starting interior spot. With teammates like Tyler Booker having praised his relentless work ethic and passion for the game, Sanders has the pedigree to become a breakout star if he stays healthy.
Emmanuel Henderson, Wide Receiver
The wide receiver room faces a shakeup following news that NC State transfer Noah Rogers will miss time due to injury. This creates a prime opportunity for Emmanuel Henderson to finally harness his elite speed and fulfill his potential. He will be pushed by Derek Meadows and standout true freshman Cederian Morgan, meaning Henderson must show immediate consistency during camp to lock in his target share.
Justin Reese, Inside Linebacker
The departure of veterans Deontae Lawson, Justin Jefferson, and Nikhai Hill-Green has left a massive vacuum in the middle of the defense. Virginia Tech transfer Caleb Woodson brings necessary experience, but the second starting spot remains up for grabs. Redshirt sophomore and Ramsey product Justin Reese is in the mix to be the frontrunner, though he faces stiff competition from challengers like Luke Metz, Duke Johnson, and Abduall Sanders.
Conor Talty, Kicker
Perhaps no player is fighting for his job more than kicker Conor Talty. After a 2025 season plagued by missed opportunities and stadium tension, Talty is battling Marshall transfer Lorcan Quinn for the starting role. With DeBoer already taking note of Quinn’s maturity, Talty faces an uphill battle to regain the trust of the coaching staff. If he can demonstrate improved accuracy and composure during preseason, he might still secure his spot on the field.
