Alabama-based chicken franchise to open another location

Wetumpka is about to get a taste of an Alabama original. Guthrie’s is officially expanding its footprint, opening its newest location at 36 Line Drive, conveniently situated across from the Wetumpka Sports Complex.

Growth in the Heart of Alabama

This opening marks a significant milestone as the company's 35th location in Alabama and its first to serve the city of Wetumpka. Franchise operators Matt Edwards and Chip Cleveland, who also own the Prattville location, are leading the charge for this new storefront. The restaurant is set to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will create jobs for 35 local residents.

Grand Opening Giveaways

Guthrie’s is celebrating its debut with a massive promotion for early birds. The first 100 guests to order a Guthrie’s Original Box Combo on opening day will score free food for a year—specifically, one Original Box Combo each month for 12 months. As an added bonus, 10 lucky winners from that group will be randomly selected to upgrade their prize to a year of free Guthrie’s every single week.

A Legacy of Fried Chicken

"Opening our first restaurant in Wetumpka is an exciting milestone for Guthrie’s, especially as an Alabama-founded brand continuing to grow in our home state," said Guthrie’s Franchising CEO Tom Carr.

Diners can expect the classic menu that made the brand a household name, including hand-breaded chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, hand-chopped coleslaw, and that signature dipping sauce. Guthrie’s has grown significantly since its late founder, Hal Guthrie Sr., first launched the concept in the Winston County town of Haleyville back in 1965. Though it started as a burger and barbecue spot, it was the 1978 addition of their famous chicken fingers that launched a franchise now spanning over 70 locations across 13 states.

Continued Momentum

This latest opening follows the company's recent expansion in the Birmingham metro area, including a new Hoover location that opened in March. To learn more about the brand's origins, check out the history of Guthrie’s fried chicken fingers.
