New Southern comfort food buffet hoping to open soon in Homewood

Hungry for some home-cooked favorites? A new Southern comfort food destination is preparing to debut in Homewood, though the restaurant is currently navigating one final step in the opening process.
Big John Buffet Prepares for Homewood Launch
John Yoon, the owner behind the upcoming Big John Buffet, reported to 205focus.com that the final piece of the puzzle is an inspection from the Jefferson County Health Department. Securing this food permit is the last hurdle standing between the restaurant and its customers.
"I’m ready to open but they haven’t given a date yet when they want to come out," Yoon stated, noting that he is awaiting email confirmation from the department. Yoon submitted his permit application over two weeks ago.
On the Menu
Located at 162 Oxmoor Road, the restaurant is now eyeing a June opening. While the project originally aimed for an April start, Yoon noted that minor delays stemming from construction and fire inspections have since been resolved.
When the doors finally open, diners can look forward to a traditional spread of Southern staples. The menu is set to feature classics including fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and sweet potato yams.
