Alabama medical device company receives fourth patent for orthopedic innovation
Simparo Surgical received a fourth U.S. patent for a device improving thumb joint reconstruction.
Alabama-based medical device innovator Simparo Surgical has reached a significant milestone, securing its fourth U.S. patent for advanced technology aimed at transforming thumb joint reconstruction procedures.
Advancing Orthopedic Care
The newly issued patent, granted on June 23, covers the Falcon Suture Clutch. This innovative suture-locking mechanism is specifically engineered to treat severe arthritis and instability at the base of the thumb—a condition known as thumb CMC reconstruction where the metacarpal bone meets the trapezium in the wrist.
The device features a unique one-way cinching design, providing surgeons with the ability to perform repairs using precise, incremental tension adjustments. By replacing traditional methods—which often involve harvesting tendons from secondary sites and drilling bone tunnels—the Falcon Suture Clutch helps reduce procedure complexity and operating time.
