Arrest made in deadly Bessemer stabbing on bus full of security guards
Pierre Seymour Eskew, 35, of New Orleans, is charged with murder, attempted murder, menacing and possession of marijuana.
A violent stabbing incident aboard a charter bus has resulted in murder charges for a 35-year-old New Orleans man. The altercation, which took place in Bessemer, left one victim dead and two others injured.
The Suspect and Charges
Pierre Seymour Eskew, 35, of New Orleans, is currently facing a serious list of charges, including one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, three counts of menacing, and a count of second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. He is being held without bond while awaiting an Aniah’s Law hearing.
The fatal incident claimed the life of 22-year-old Darryel Sutton, also of New Orleans. One of the wounded victims remains in critical condition following surgery, while another who sustained minor injuries is currently recovering.
Incident Details
Bessemer police and fire units responded to the Walmart parking lot on Academy Drive around 1:13 p.m. this past Monday following reports of the altercation. Authorities discovered that the violence erupted inside a bus carrying 40 Fess Security employees who were traveling back to Louisiana after working at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee.
According to reports, the fight broke out at the rear of the bus shortly after the group returned from a stop. While the driver attempted to intervene, they were not injured during the struggle. Following the incident, Sutton was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m. Police apprehended Eskew shortly after the crime near St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
Investigation and Community Response
Detectives D. Stewart, D. Smith, and J. Washburn have been spearheading the investigation. Sgt. Chris Selman praised the team for their dedication in managing a chaotic scene involving numerous witnesses and multiple victims, noting that they are working diligently to prepare the case for prosecution.
