Man faces charges after Huntsville pursuit led to officer firing his weapon, police say

A Huntsville man is in custody following a high-stakes vehicle pursuit that concluded with an exchange of gunfire. Authorities confirmed the arrest of 26-year-old Koby Green, who is now facing a multitude of serious charges linked to the June 9 incident, as reported by 205focus.com.

The Incident

The situation unfolded at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when Huntsville police attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Highway 53 and Research Park Boulevard. Sgt. Chris Jackson, the public information officer for the department, noted that officers identified Green as having several active warrants, including two tied to a June 6 shooting on Sparkman Drive.

When Green refused to pull over, a pursuit ensued. The chase ended near the Research Park Boulevard on-ramp to Oakwood Avenue, where Green eventually stopped his vehicle. According to police, Green brandished a weapon, prompting an officer to discharge his firearm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the encounter, and Green was successfully taken into custody.

Charges and Investigation

Green is currently facing a heavy list of charges, including drug trafficking, two counts of firing a gun into an unoccupied building, two counts of attempting to elude police, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, as well as charges for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and simple assault/menacing. His bond has been set at $3.1 million.

In accordance with standard protocol, the Huntsville Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is conducting a formal investigation into the officer’s use of force during the apprehension.
