Alabama students named winners of college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships
Seventy-five Alabama students are among about 6,700 nationwide to earn National Merit Scholarships for undergraduate study.
A group of 75 high-achieving Alabama students have earned prestigious National Merit Scholarships for undergraduate study, placing them among a select cohort of approximately 6,700 students honored nationwide.
These college-sponsored awards represent the latest wave of recognition for students who stood out during the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. Selected directly by their future institutions, these scholars will receive annual awards ranging from $500 to $2,500 for up to four years of study. Candidates were rigorously vetted based on a comprehensive profile including their GPA, PSAT scores, extracurricular involvement, personal essays, and official high school recommendations. This news follows the earlier announcement of corporate-sponsored merit winners, which 205focus.com covered back in May.
