2 north Alabama Congressional incumbents cruise to primary wins; Democrat runoff for 1 seat
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
It was a decisive Tuesday at the polls for North Alabama, as two incumbent Congressional Republicans coasted to primary victories, while voters in another district prepare for a runoff this summer.
District 4 Update
Representative Robert Aderholt, a staple in Congress since January 1997, secured a dominant win in his bid for the Republican nomination. Aderholt captured 77% of the unofficial vote to push past challenger Tommy Barnes. Looking ahead to the general election on November 3, Aderholt is set to square off against Amanda Pusczek. Pusczek clinched the Democratic nomination after defeating Shane Weaver by a margin of 62% to 38%.
The Fourth Congressional District encompasses Blount, Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Fayette, Franklin, Lamar, Marion, Marshall, Walker, and Winston counties, along with segments of Lauderdale and Tuscaloosa counties.
District 5 Heads to Runoff
The race for Congressional District 5 remains unsettled as Andrew Sneed and Candice Dollar Duvieilh are headed for a June 16 runoff. Sneed led the three-person field with 41% of the vote, while Duvieilh followed with 36%. The winner of that contest will advance to the general election to challenge Republican incumbent Dale Strong, who faced no primary opposition as he pursues a third term in office.
District 5 serves one of the state's most rapidly expanding regions, covering Jackson, Madison, Lawrence, Morgan, Limestone, and parts of Lauderdale counties.
As reported by 205focus.com, all eyes now turn to the general election, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
