Auburn Big Cat weekend: Rance Brown down to Auburn, Kentucky after visit

The Plains were buzzing this past Saturday as Auburn football opened its doors for Big Cat weekend, the program's marquee annual recruiting event. Among the high-profile talent in attendance was 3-star offensive lineman Rance Brown, who is quickly becoming a priority target for the coaching staff.

A Two-Team Race

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 290 pounds, the Brentwood Academy standout is feeling the pull of the Tigers. Brown, a former Gadsden, Alabama native who grew up an Auburn fan, confirmed that his recruitment has narrowed down to a head-to-head battle between Auburn and Kentucky.

"I feel like it’s Auburn and Kentucky. I’ve narrowed it down to them and Kentucky. That’s my top two," Brown said. "I think I might have my decision by the time I take my OV here. Auburn or Kentucky."

Building Connections

Brown, who is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 85 offensive tackle and No. 41 player in Tennessee, noted that the atmosphere at Big Cat weekend was instrumental in deepening his bond with the staff. During his visit, the big man participated in the signature scavenger hunt and spent quality time with his potential future teammates.

"It was awesome. Got some one-on-one time with the coaches, just trying to narrow things down," Brown shared. "Had fun doing the scavenger hunt, that was pretty cool being around the other offensive linemen that are looking forward to coming here. Getting to see campus, it’s always great seeing that. Beautiful campus, I love this place."

Decision Timeline

The final stretch of Brown's recruitment is set. He has an official visit to Auburn scheduled for May 29-31, followed by a trip to Lexington for a Kentucky visit from June 12-14. Brown plans to announce his final decision immediately following those visits.

The connection with the Auburn staff—specifically offensive line coach Tyler Hudancick and his daily contact with the program—has kept the Tigers in a strong position. "It’s about as personal as it gets," Brown said. "We talk daily. Coach (Alex) Golesh calls me daily. It’s just a great relationship all around."
