Auburn lands commitment from 4-star edge rusher

Auburn football’s momentum on the recruiting trail shows no signs of slowing down this summer. On Wednesday, the Tigers secured their eighth commitment since the start of the official visit period, landing a pledge from four-star edge rusher Rion Jackson.

Boosting the 2027 Class

Jackson, a standout prospect out of Annapolis High School in Maryland, ranks as the No. 371 player nationally and the 33rd-best edge rusher in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He made his decision official during a livestream on the Rivals YouTube channel, choosing the Tigers over Virginia Tech.

Following a successful official visit on May 29, Jackson became the 17th commitment for Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class and serves as the program's first addition at the edge rusher position.

Impact on the Field

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds, the Maryland native is a disruptive force on the defensive side of the ball. His junior campaign in 2025 was highly productive, as he tallied 62 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks. He also showcased his versatility with six pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and an interception, according to MaxPreps.

Strengthening the DMV Pipeline

Jackson’s commitment further solidifies the flourishing pipeline from the DMV area to the Plains, a trend spearheaded by defensive coordinator DJ Durkin. Jackson joins a growing list of Maryland natives currently tied to the Auburn program, including Bryce Deas, Da’Shawn Womack, Blake Woodby, and Wayne Henry, among others. 205focus.com will continue to track the Tigers' progress as they build out their future roster.
