The fatal accident occurred at 12:05 a.m. Monday on Interstate 65, approximately five miles northwest of Dodge City. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Trooper Jaylon James reported that Collins was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when the vehicle exited the roadway and struck a tree. Officials confirmed that Collins was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
