CBS Sports makes major announcement about Tony Romo following his arrest

CBS Sports has officially sidelined NFL analyst Tony Romo following his recent arrest on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence.

The network confirmed that Romo has been placed on leave effective immediately. As of now, there is no timetable for his return to the broadcast booth as the lead NFL game analyst.

Changes to the Broadcast Booth

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, CBS has moved quickly to fill the vacancy. In a statement provided via social media, the network confirmed that JJ Watt will step in alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson. The remainder of the NFL on CBS roster is expected to be announced at a later date.

The Circumstances Behind the Arrest

The 46-year-old former quarterback was taken into custody last Thursday after being pulled over while traveling south on Interstate 43 in Wisconsin. Reports indicate the stop occurred shortly after Romo competed in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship.

Details surrounding the incident continue to emerge. ESPN reports that police discovered an open bottle of alcohol inside his vehicle. Furthermore, authorities noted that Romo received a citation for “Refuse to Take Test for Intoxication After Arrest,” a charge that carries the potential risk of a one-year driver’s license suspension.
