Death of 2-year-old girl in east Alabama under investigation

Incident Response
At approximately 9 a.m., Chambers County sheriff’s deputies and Lanett EMS were dispatched to a residence on County Road 187 in the Cusseta area. First responders arrived following reports that a 2-year-old girl was not breathing.
Deputies immediately initiated life-saving measures upon arrival and continued those efforts until paramedics could take over. The child was subsequently transported to East Alabama Medical Center, where she was sadly pronounced dead.
Investigation Ongoing
Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that the child’s body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to undergo an autopsy. The investigation is a collaborative effort between the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, the Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, and the Chambers County Coroner’s Office.
