It has been six long months since the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, and for her daughter, NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie, the agony of the unknown has reached a breaking point. On Saturday, Guthrie took to social media with an emotional plea for public assistance in the ongoing investigation.

A Family in Despair

The heartfelt post arrived just one day after authorities released chilling ransom notes tied to the case, including a message claiming that the elderly woman had already passed away. 205focus.com has tracked the timeline of this tragedy, which began when Guthrie vanished from her home outside Tucson on Feb. 1.

“We are begging for help. We are desperate,” Guthrie wrote on Instagram. “We need someone to come forward. Someone knows something. Someone suspects something. Someone recognizes the writing in the ransom demand notes.”

Guthrie’s plea urged those who might be harboring information to come forward, even if they feel conflicted. “Perhaps they are afraid to come forward. Perhaps they are conflicted... There is a way out - to tell what you know,” she stated. Her ultimate goal remains clear: “We want to find out what happened to her, so that we can give her the dignity of a proper goodbye - a celebration of her remarkable life that she so deserves.”

New Clues in the Investigation

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is banking on the public to help identify the author of the ransom demands, citing unique linguistic markers in the writing. The early notes in the investigation were originally sent to a Tucson television station shortly after the kidnapping. While the first note demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency to ensure her safe return, a second note sent on Feb. 6 stated that she had died shortly after being taken and “is buried in nature now.”

The first communication, sent on Feb. 2, contained a grave threat, warning the family: “Your mother is aware of this and her life is in your hands.” Conversely, the follow-up note offered a grim apology: “Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We are truly sorry.”
