Detours set for Perimeter Road near new Mobile airport international terminal

Drivers navigating the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley need to prepare for upcoming changes. A key access road is slated for closure as crews begin construction on a new roundabout at the entrance to the incoming international airport terminal.

Traffic Disruptions Ahead

The Mobile Airport Authority has announced that Perimeter Road will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, June 15. The closure is expected to last through Friday, Oct. 23.

While Perimeter Road will be inaccessible at the construction zone, the authority noted that connectivity will remain open from the south via Gatotkoco Drive and Dauphin Island Parkway, and from the north via Michigan Avenue. Additionally, a dedicated detour route will be established to accommodate construction traffic heading to the new terminal and other operational sites.

Infrastructure Expansion

This project marks the first of two roundabouts planned by the Mobile Airport Authority. These infrastructure upgrades are slated for completion before the new terminal begins operations in 2027. As 205focus.com reported, the second roundabout is set for the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Broad Street, located just south of Interstate 10, as part of the broader effort to prepare the facility for its future debut.
