Former Alabama running back, NFL rushing champ facing domestic charges

Green Bay Packers running back and former Alabama standout Josh Jacobs remains in custody at the Brown County (Wisconsin) Jail following an arrest on Tuesday. The charges stem from an alleged domestic incident that took place on Saturday.

Charges and Legal Status

According to a release from the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department, Jacobs was booked on five specific charges: battery-domestic abuse, criminal damage to property-domestic abuse, disorderly conduct-domestic abuse, intimidation of a victim, and a felony count of strangulation and suffocation. Per Brown County Jail records, Jacobs is being held without bond while awaiting his initial court appearance.

Hobart-Lawrence Police Chief Michael Renkas noted that the department considers this an active and ongoing investigation, and no further details are currently available.

Responses to the Arrest

Representatives for the Packers acknowledged the situation in a statement provided to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, stating they are aware of the matter but will refrain from commenting further while the legal process plays out.

Meanwhile, Jacobs' legal team—David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld, and Clarence Duchac—issued a formal response asserting his innocence. In their statement, they wrote, "Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public. We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course."

Professional Background

Jacobs, a 2019 first-round draft pick out of Alabama, has put together a decorated NFL career that includes three Pro Bowl selections, a first-team All-Pro nod, and the 2022 NFL rushing title. He has reached the 1,000-yard rushing mark four times in his career. Since entering the league, he trails only fellow Crimson Tide product Derrick Henry in total rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns.

During his 2025 campaign with the Packers, Jacobs recorded 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, adding 282 receiving yards and another score through the air across 15 games.
