Hewitt-Trussville softball star named Gatorade Alabama Player of Year

After a dominant championship campaign, Hewitt-Trussville softball standout Corey Goguts has added another prestigious honor to her trophy case.
A Season for the Record Books
The Huskies star and future Ole Miss signee was officially named the Gatorade Alabama Softball Player of the Year for the 2026 season. The announcement, released on Friday, caps off a phenomenal run for the athlete who has been a centerpiece of the Hewitt-Trussville program for years.
Goguts' offensive production this season was nothing short of historic. She finished the year with a staggering .618 batting average, recording 29 home runs, 14 doubles, and 11 triples. Her impact went well beyond power, as she drove in 91 RBIs and scored 109 runs, boasting an impressive .712 on-base percentage and a 2.140 OPS.
Championship Pedigree
This individual recognition follows the Huskies' team success, as Goguts helped lead Hewitt-Trussville to a 49-10-1 record. The season reached its pinnacle when the program captured its fifth state softball title after beating Thompson in the Class 7A state championship.
"She is great in every aspect — leadership, defensively, offensively and baserunning," Spanish Fort coach Jonathan Rasberry said in a release from Gatorade. "Goguts has been starting and leading Hewitt for years."
The Gatorade Selection Process
The Gatorade Player of the Year program continues to serve as the gold standard for high school excellence, recognizing one state winner in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C. across 12 different sports. In total, 610 athletes are honored annually, with one national winner selected from each sport pool.
