The renewal news follows a transition in the show's creative leadership. Earlier this month, series creator Roma Roth stepped down as showrunner and head writer. She will continue her involvement with the project as an executive producer, while Diggstown creator Floyd Kane steps in to lead the series moving forward.

Life After Scott Patterson

Season 4, which aired from March to May 2026, marked the first chapter of the series without Scott Patterson, who previously starred as Harry “Sully” Sullivan. Patterson addressed his exit in a March Facebook post, citing untenable creative differences as the driving force behind his departure.

Patterson emphasized his commitment to the character, stating, “The creative differences were becoming untenable and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue.” He added, “I really enjoyed Sully and fought for his voice and his character.”

Roma Roth previously explained to Us Weekly that the character's narrative arc—which saw him leave for Ireland at the end of season 3—provided a natural point for the actor to exit, though she noted the character remains a part of the show's world.

Cast and Series Background

While Patterson moved on, season 4 introduced several new faces to the mix, including Fuad Ahmed, Jonathan Silverman, Colby Frost, and Emerson MacNeil. Returning stars Morgan Kohan, Chad Michael Murray, Tom Jackson, Andrea Menard, and Marcus Rosner kept the momentum going for the series, which originally debuted on CTV in 2023.
