Lamar County standout voted by readers as top performer from AHSAA state softball tournament

After a dominant performance on the biggest stage, Lamar County pitcher and Class 2A state tournament MVP Harper Myers has been voted by 205focus.com readers as the top performer of the AHSAA state softball tournament.

Myers commanded the polls, securing 54.5 percent of the more than 34,000 votes cast throughout the week. Hewitt-Trussville’s Harper Looney followed in second place with 29.48 percent, while Lawrence County’s McKinley McCaghren earned 8.74 percent of the vote.

A Championship Performance

The eighth-grade phenom left her mark on the state tournament, capped off by a stellar outing in the title game. Myers tossed five shutout innings and allowed just one hit against North Sand Mountain, powering the Bulldogs to a 10-0, run-rule victory and the program's first-ever state softball championship.

Dominance in the Circle and at the Plate

Myers was nearly untouchable throughout the week. Across 23 innings pitched, she surrendered just 13 hits and two earned runs while walking six and striking out 27 batters. That total includes a gritty eight-inning performance against top-ranked J.U. Blacksher, where she fanned seven, and a complete-game shutout against Sumiton Christian.

Her impact wasn't limited to the circle, either. Myers provided a major spark at the plate, finishing the week 7-for-13 with five RBIs.

Road to the Title

The Bulldogs' path to the trophy was anything but easy. Lamar County navigated a difficult field, defeating Ranburne (12-2), J.U. Blacksher (9-2), and Sumiton Christian (3-0) before sealing their championship run against North Sand Mountain.
