Troy basketball adds former UMBC forward to 2026-27 roster

The Troy men's basketball team has bolstered its 2026-27 roster by adding transfer forward Caden Diggs. A 6-foot-8 talent from Waldorf, Maryland, Diggs brings valuable experience and positional versatility to the Trojans' program.

A Proven Contributor

Diggs spent this past season at Maryland-Baltimore County, where he recorded averages of 10 points and 3.8 rebounds over 22.9 minutes per game. The forward has two years of eligibility remaining and is no stranger to the Sun Belt Conference; he played his freshman season at Old Dominion alongside fellow Troy newcomer Robert Davis.

High Praise from Howard

Troy head coach Adam Howard is clearly excited about the addition. "Caden is a great addition to our program," Howard said. "He’s the total package as a student-athlete. He cares deeply about his education and works just as hard on his game. Caden has great positional size for a wing, and his versatility brings a ton of value to our team. He has made improvements each season, and we are confident he will take another jump in his development this coming season and have a big impact on our program."

Building the Roster

Diggs joins an incoming class featuring transfers Davis and Jacoi Hutchinson (Longwood), along with incoming freshmen Willie Piggott, Romain Valakou, and Tucker Wadsworth. These new faces will join returning program veterans Kerrington Kiel, Evan Griffin, Emmanuel Clarton, and Hikaru Awata.

Moving Forward After Change

The roster overhaul follows the departure of head coach Scott Cross to Georgia Tech. Following that coaching change, six players entered the transfer portal: Victor Valdes joined Cross at Georgia Tech, Thomas Dowd committed to Auburn, and Cobi and Cooper Campbell signed with Liberty.

Championship Expectations

Troy enters the new campaign after a stellar 2025-26 season in which they went 23-12, securing their second consecutive Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles. The Trojans concluded their year with a first-round appearance in the NCAA tournament against Nebraska.
