Birmingham police are investigating a homicide after a man was found fatally shot inside a vehicle that crashed into an Ensley residence on Saturday afternoon.

The Birmingham Police Department has officially launched a homicide investigation following a deadly shooting in the Ensley neighborhood on Saturday.

Incident Timeline

According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, the incident began around 12:40 p.m. when West Precinct officers were alerted to gunfire via a ShotSpotter notification in the 1000 block of 47th Street Ensley. As officers moved to the scene, they received reports of a single-vehicle accident nearby in the 1300 block of 47th Street Ensley.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a vehicle that had crashed directly into a home. The driver, an adult male, was found unresponsive inside the car suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Investigation Ongoing

Preliminary findings from the Birmingham Police Department suggest that the victim was traveling down 47th Street Ensley when an unidentified suspect opened fire on his vehicle. The gunfire caused the victim to lose control and strike a residence. Fortunately, no individuals inside the home sustained injuries during the crash.
