New Southern comfort food buffet hoping to open soon in Homewood
Big John Buffet's owner said he is ready to open but has another hurdle to clear.

Hungry for some home cooking? A new Southern comfort food destination is eyeing a debut in Homewood, though it has one final procedural box to check before opening its doors.
The Path to Opening
John Yoon, the owner of Big John Buffet, told 205focus.com that he is currently waiting on the Jefferson County Health Department to conduct an inspection to secure his food permit. Yoon noted that he submitted his application over two weeks ago.
"I’m ready to open but they haven’t given a date yet when they want to come out," Yoon said. "They said they’re going to email me the date."
Coming Soon to Oxmoor Road
The restaurant, located at 162 Oxmoor Road, was originally targeting an April opening. However, Yoon explained that progress was pushed back by necessary construction and fire inspections, both of which have now been resolved. With the final health inspection on the horizon, Yoon anticipates a June launch.
A Taste of the South
Once the buffet officially opens, diners can look forward to a rotating selection of classic Southern staples. The menu is set to feature favorites such as fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and sweet potato yams.
