4-star in-state defensive lineman recaps Auburn official visit

Spain Park High School standout Marquis Evans recently wrapped up an official visit to Auburn, marking yet another trip to campus for the four-star defensive lineman. While he has frequented the Plains several times, this latest visit offered a prime opportunity to further strengthen his bond with the Tigers' coaching staff.

A Familiar Feeling at Auburn

Evans, a Hoover native, spoke highly of his experience throughout the weekend. "It went good. I’m seeing everything I need to see," Evans said. "Treated right up there. It just feels like home. I’ve been here four or five times now, so it’s like home for me."

Recruitment and Evaluation

As a four-star recruit, Evans is currently ranked as the No. 414 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and holds the status of the 19th-best prospect in Alabama. His production is clear; during his junior campaign at Minor High School, he recorded 28 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and six sacks, according to MaxPreps.

The Auburn coaching staff is targeting Evans specifically as an edge rusher. During the official visit, he spent significant time with bucks and edges coach Coleman Hutzler. "Sitting down with Coach Hutzler he talked about how exactly they see me fitting," Evans noted. "They pulled up some of my tape, some stuff that I did that correlates to what they did here."

The Road Ahead

The recruiting cycle remains busy for the talented lineman. Prior to his trip to Auburn, Evans completed official visits to Tennessee and Miami. He has additional visits lined up with Florida and South Carolina.

Evans plans to finalize his decision shortly after his last summer official visit, and Auburn remains firmly in the conversation. When evaluating his options, Evans emphasized that the human element takes precedence. "Biggest factors for me is development and the people," Evans said. "The more I go around, those have been the things from me since Day 1. Because everybody is going to sell you the same thing because it’s their job trying to get you to go there. The people are what makes the place honestly, and I’ve heard that a lot here."
