Alabama Moms For Liberty chair wins Republican runoff for state school board seat
Emily Jones defeated William Matthews during the Republican runoff in the District 8 Alabama Board of Education race.
A Moms for Liberty activist has officially secured the Republican nomination for a key state board of education seat in north Alabama.
Emily Jones emerged victorious over William Matthews in Tuesday’s runoff election, clinching the chance to represent District 8. The district spans across Limestone, Dekalb, Madison, and Jackson counties.
Election Results and Priorities
Unofficial election night results indicate a decisive win for Jones, who captured 54% of the vote compared to 46% for Matthews. The state board of education serves as the primary body for overseeing policy decisions within Alabama’s public school system.
As the founder and chair of the Madison County chapter of Moms For Liberty, Jones has built her campaign on a conservative parental rights platform. Her stated priorities include pushing for greater parental transparency, establishing state-level control over acceptable curriculum, and eliminating the teaching of what she terms “gender ideology” in the classroom.
The Road Ahead
With the Republican primary runoff now behind her, Jones turns her focus toward the general election. She is set to face Democratic candidate Shatika Armstrong on Nov. 3. Stay tuned to 205focus.com for continued coverage of the race as we approach the fall election.
