Alabama primary election runoff 2026 live updates: GOP voters cast ballots for Senate, AG, Lieutenant Governor
Follow us here throughout the night for the latest updates and election results.
While Alabama has more election days on the calendar this year, today marks the most significant moment for state politics in 2026. Republican voters are heading to the polls to decide three of the party's most contentious races: runoffs for the U.S. Senate, Attorney General, and Lieutenant Governor.
In deep-red Alabama, winners in these GOP runoffs are heavily favored to secure their positions in the November 3 general election. You can find sample ballots for your specific county here.
High-Stakes GOP Runoffs
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore faces former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson in the Senate runoff, a race that turned increasingly aggressive over questions regarding Moore’s military record. The victor will challenge the Democratic nominee to fill the seat currently held by Tommy Tuberville. On the Democratic side, former judge Everett Wess and businessman Dakarai Larriett are competing for their party's nomination.
The race for Lieutenant Governor has been equally intense, featuring former ALGOP chairman John Wahl against Secretary of State Wes Allen. Their heated contest will eventually lead to a showdown with Democrat Rep. Phillip Ensler, who made history in 2022 by flipping a previously Republican seat.
For the Attorney General position, former Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell squares off against Katherine Robertson, chief counsel to AG Steve Marshall. This brutal campaign has been heavily focused on dark money concerns. The winner faces Democrat Jeffrey McLaughlin in the fall.
Down-Ballot Races and Updates
Former state auditor Jim Zeigler and incumbent Chris Beeker are battling for the Public Service Commission Place 2 nomination, a role that oversees utilities like Alabama Power. Meanwhile, the race for agriculture commissioner features Corey Hill and Christina Woerner McInnis, with the winner moving on to face Democrat Ron Sparks.
