Democrat says Trump investigating him, wife ‘because I’m considering running for president’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared Monday that he is being targeted by federal agents under the direct orders of President Donald Trump. According to the potential 2028 presidential candidate, the administration is weaponizing the Department of Justice against him and his wife, Jennifer Seibel Newsom, in an attempt to silence his ongoing criticism of the president.

Escalating Investigations

Newsom, who has frequently utilized social media to challenge what he describes as Trump's “lies and deceit,” claims these investigations are a direct result of his political ambitions and his vocal opposition to the White House. He reported that federal agents have been knocking on the doors of family friends and former employees, a move the governor characterized as a fishing expedition rather than a legitimate search for wrongdoing.

“They’re demanding records, they’re abusing the grand jury process – digging through years and years of random documents,” Newsom stated during a televised address. He emphasized that the pressure has now extended to his spouse, asserting, “If they can’t intimidate me, they’ll go after the mother of our children. Donald Trump hit the wrong target. We have nothing to hide.”

Allegations of Corruption

The California governor took aim at the administration’s staffing choices, specifically citing President Trump’s appointment of his personal attorney, Todd Blanche, as assistant attorney general. Blanche, who has been nominated to serve as the permanent attorney general following the resignation of Pam Bondi, is at the center of what Newsom described as a "corrupt" effort to target political enemies.

Newsom painted a stark picture of the current administration, accusing Trump of turning federal government resources into “personal power ministries.” He pointed to various controversies, including claims that Trump has traded tariff relief for his own golf course interests, engaged in personal day trading, and accepted a $400 million jet from Qatar.

“This is the behavior of a regime, not a republic,” Newsom said. “Influence for sale. Access for sale. And today, my family and I can personally confirm that justice is for sale.”

A Message to the White House

During his address, Newsom issued a direct challenge to the president, urging him to keep family matters out of their political feud. While he acknowledged the gravity of the situation, he signaled that he would not be backing down from the national stage.

“You can subpoena my records, you can investigate me, you can harass me. Put my name on any and every enemies list you have. But leave my wife and family out of your personal vendetta,” Newsom said. “Mr. President, come after me. I’m not going anywhere. And the country is watching.”
