Huntsville is no stranger to rapid expansion, as the state's largest city has been on a sustained upward trajectory for decades. Now, the Rocket City has officially secured a massive new national milestone.
A Top 100 Powerhouse
According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates released last week, Huntsville has officially cracked the top 100 most populous cities in the United States.

As of July 1, 2025, Huntsville boasted an estimated population of 233,627. This growth reflects an increase of more than 3,200 residents since 2024, a surge that allowed the city to edge out Norfolk, Va., for the No. 100 spot on the national list.

Moving Up the Ranks
Huntsville is now moving in the same circles as cities like Richmond, Va.; Boise, Idaho; and McKinney, Texas.
