Broadcasting legend Bill O'Reilly recently opened up about the lingering weight of advice he provided to President Donald Trump regarding the war in Iran. Reflecting on his past counsel, O'Reilly admitted he finds himself haunted by the warnings he issued before the conflict escalated.

A High-Stakes Gamble

During a candid appearance on NewsNation with host Leland Vittert, O'Reilly recounted a private February conversation with the president. He explicitly told Trump that engaging in military action against Iran represented the single biggest gamble of his life. O'Reilly argued at the time that the opposition was irrational and, comparing them to militants from World War II-era Japan and Germany, insisted they would not surrender easily. He also cautioned that relying on the Persian population to facilitate an overthrow was a flawed strategy.

As reported by Mediaite, O'Reilly reflected on the unfolding situation, stating, "My words haunt me, because it’s exactly how it came down."

Dismissing Political Maneuvering

When Vittert questioned whether the administration was intentionally maintaining the conflict to bolster Republican prospects ahead of the midterm elections, O'Reilly promptly laughed off the notion. He emphasized that the president would exit the conflict immediately if given the chance.

This follows other recent commentary from the former Fox News star regarding his longtime friend. O'Reilly shocked many last month by suggesting that Trump should take the month of August off for a "reset" and focus on golf. At the time, O'Reilly noted he observed the president "hunching over a bit," signaling that a break might be in order for the commander-in-chief.
