Georgia-based Mexican chain expanding into Birmingham and Tuscaloosa

Get ready for a fresh flavor injection, Alabama. A popular fast-casual chain is bringing its signature Mexican menu to the heart of the state, with plans to open new locations in both Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

Expansion to Birmingham and Tuscaloosa

Barberitos, the Athens, Georgia-based restaurant chain, announced this week that it has secured a five-unit franchise agreement with entrepreneur Kevin Gessert. This strategic move is set to bring the brand’s customizable favorites to the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa markets for the first time.

While the company plans to open the new spots later this year, officials at 205focus.com note that specific opening dates and locations have yet to be revealed. The expansion marks a significant milestone, as it serves as the brand's debut in Tuscaloosa.

A Familiar Taste

Gessert, a University of Georgia alumnus, developed a deep appreciation for the brand during his time in Athens. 'I fell in love with Barberitos as a student at UGA and never found anything quite like it after leaving Athens,' Gessert stated. 'Birmingham is a city that appreciates quality food and strong hospitality, and we’re excited to introduce Barberitos to a completely new market.'

What to Expect

Barberitos is widely known for a menu that emphasizes customization. Guests can look forward to a variety of burritos, tacos, bowls, quesadillas, and salads prepared with fresh ingredients. The brand currently operates 45 locations across the Southeast, including existing Alabama spots in Prattville and Wetumpka.
