Human remains discovered this past Monday in east Alabama are believed to be those of a 58-year-old man who had been the subject of a missing persons search for more than a week. Howard Patrick Brown Jr., an Oxford resident, was reported missing on June 7 following his last confirmed sighting on May 31.
Investigation and Discovery
According to information reported by 205focus.com, Anniston police had previously noted that Brown was last seen near East 10th Street in Anniston. Officials had expressed concern at the time, noting that Brown may have been dealing with a condition that impacted his judgment.
On Monday afternoon, authorities found the remains in a heavily overgrown area located just off the roadway along South Quintard Avenue, near the border of the Anniston and Oxford city limits. Evidence recovered at the scene led investigators to identify the remains as Brown.
Status of the Investigation
Capt. Brett Lloyd indicated that there were no immediate signs of foul play in the discovery. The remains have been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville, where an autopsy and formal identification process will be conducted.
"This is not the outcome we hoped for," Lloyd said, offering condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this challenging time.
The search and investigation were a collaborative effort involving the Anniston Fire Department, the Oxford Police Department, the Calhoun County Coroner’s Office, and the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office.
