Huntsville restaurant in classic spot closing down: ‘Unforgettable 4 years’

The Five Points neighborhood is set to see another transition at a historic local property. 607 Andrew Jackson Way, the building once famous for hosting the legendary Mullins Restaurant, will soon be vacant again as The Curry Modern Indian prepares to close its doors.

End of an Era in Five Points

The restaurant, a staple for Indian cuisine enthusiasts, announced its departure via a social media statement this past Friday. After a four-year run in the space, ownership noted that their lease is concluding and the landlord intends to pursue other plans for the property. The restaurant’s final day of service will be Sunday, August 16th, following brunch.

In their farewell message, the team expressed deep gratitude to the Huntsville community, noting that the restaurant became a go-to spot for birthdays, anniversaries, and everything in between. While the current location is closing, the team's closing statement suggests a potential for a future return in a different capacity.

A Local Favorite

The Curry earned its place as a city standout, even landing a spot on the 2025 “30 essential Huntsville restaurants” list published by our peers at AL.com. Critics praised the establishment for its well-executed buffet, which featured classics like tandoori chicken and tikka masala alongside a rotating selection of vibrant dishes like aloo jeera and chana masala.

The building itself carries a long legacy in Five Points. Before The Curry moved in, the space was home to Mario’s Five Points, a pizzeria that closed in 2021. Further back, the site was the longtime home of Mullins Restaurant, a local institution that operated from the 1970s until its permanent closure in 2016. The location's history dates back even further to 1929, when it debuted as the Fifth Street Cafe.
